Description

This video hook is an optional way to introduce the Pirate Math Quest: Redbeard's Rebellion. The video has been designed to add extra excitement and make the students feel immersed into the math quest activity.

Begin the activity with this video, then send your students on the quest that involves six chapters of math puzzles and challenges. Three levels of difficulty provided for differentiation. The levels can be purchased separately or in a bundle, check the links out below.

You can find the separate difficulty levels to purchase through these links below:

Math Quest: Redbeard's Rebellion (EASY LEVEL)

Math Quest: Redbeard's Rebellion (MEDIUM LEVEL)

Math Quest: Redbeard's Rebellion (HARD LEVEL)

Students can end up with one of four different endings.

PLEASE NOTE: I have included a written story within the PDF product if you prefer to use with your students for the introduction into the Math Quest. This video is only an optional extra.

What is a Math Quest?

It begins with a story, as in the video hook. Then continues in 'chapters.' Each chapter reveals the next part of the story, posing a math task to complete. Once the math task is complete, students may progress to the next chapter. The final chapter will present some choices for actions to take in the story. Students make their choice and then complete the math in that section, carrying out instructions to receive a 'special number.' If they do the math correctly, the special number will match up to their ending of the story on the final page. Four alternate endings to receive!

Great to use for enrichment, early finishers, or a way to get lots of math practice in with a fun twist. Set as independent work or pairs to go on this story adventure.

Preparation & Set-Up

You will need to print, photocopy and have the video ready for viewing to complete this activity. The video hook is for (optional) viewing before starting the paper part of this task. The math component of this activity is on paper, with each chapter presenting a part of the story to read and a math task/challenge or puzzle to 'progress' through the story. At the end of the story, students will be given choices, which leads to one of four alternative endings for them.

PLEASE NOTE: MP4 file added to the supporting document area within a compressed ZIP folder. This is for offline viewing needs, especially if you have purchased a custom bundle where I have been unable to email the videos.
