Full Scripted Drama Unit - "Taken for a Ride"

A full teaching unit including activities and the script for "Taken for a Ride". The play follows the main character of Jenna as she faces her own issues, making decisions about the person she wants to be. Along the way she meets others at the bus stop, changed by their interactions. This is a play with a social message that isn't laboured or preachy, allows students to think about their own actions and interactions, and to step inside the world of others.

The play is set at a bus stop, with no challenging costumes or props. Everything you need is clearly listed in the script, and can easily be found in your costume/props cupboard, brought from home or from a thrift store.

A perfect piece for working as a full class who may not have a lot of experience performing to an audience. There is one central character on stage for the whole play, and the others come and go. This is a one-act play, so also perfect for those competitions. The script is 27 pages long, and runs about 22 minutes of stage time.

This unit has all the activities to enter into the script, games and thinking tasks to focus your work on what really matters, and assessment guides for the performance itself. Character groups can be eliminated for smaller classes, or students could play multiple roles within the play.
