Follow the journey of the water from the source to the ocean and acquire and understanding of the following terms:
Source, brook, stream, spring, river, erosion, waterfall, dam, meander, delta, mouth, drought, flood.
On the way to the ocean, learn about the following (North American) river organisms:
Beaver, american alligator, dragonfly, western painted turtle, water strider, algae, rainbow trout, fairy (my younger students love the imaginative aspect, but please feel free to remove the fairy!)

How to use this unit:
Depending on the age of your students, there are various ways of working with the material.
1. Study the picture cards visually.
2. Match the picture cards with the vocabulary labels and vice versa.
3. Reading: Read the information cards and match with the picture cards.
4. Correct order: Bring the "From brook to ocean" cards in the correct order.
5. Reading assignement: Older students can read the information text and fill in the blanks with the correct terminology (answer key included.)
Objects of the class: Gain an understanding of the water's journey from brook to ocean. Practice reading comprehension of an informational text and acquire new vocabulary. Learn about north american river organisms.
