Season four starts with Coach Taylor at East Dillon, as the school district has been split into two districts with Coach Taylor being relegated to the East Dillon facility which is in the poverty pocket of Dillon Texas. The school, its programs and athletic facilities are a wreck. The school hasn't had a competitive athletic team in decades, so Coach Taylor is awarded the opportunity to perform a miracle and mold a team out of misfits, miscreants and males who all want to be the quarterback. Only Coach Taylor can rise to the occasion in a community where there are clear lines between haves and have nots.Several of the story lines from previous seasons are continued and/or wrapped up just as in real life high schools where seniors graduate, move on, and are replaced by new and compelling characters. Coach Taylor inspires the youth he comes in contact with to believe in themselves, to want better for themselves, to push for perfection, to bond and help each other, and to put petty differences about race in the trash where it belongs. Coach's wife, TammyTaylor does the same as Coach with the students she comes into contact with both as a high school principal and counselor. Together they continue to model problem solving in their relationship as well in relationships in the community. The introduction of Vince Howard and all he represents into the series is brilliant and a realistic portrayal of the painful life altering decisions many of our youth face on a daily basis. The series continues to reiterate the awesome opportunity educators have to affect meaningful changes in the lives of American youth.
