Description
Fort McHenry Letter (War of 1812)
This writing assignment is designed to allow students to write a letter about the British attack on Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. This writing assignment is great when combined with a unit on War of 1812. However, this assignment can be used as an individual lesson plan.
Students can use the following website to gather information about the Battle of Fort McHenry.
https://www.battlefields.org/learn/war-1812/battles/fort-mchenry
The student handout will guide students through the process of writing the letter about the Battle of Fort McHenry. The letter uses creative writing by allowing students to take the role of an American soldier at Fort McHenry or a citizen of Baltimore. A grading rubric is included for the teacher.
I would like to thank Dandy Doodles for the wonderful clip art!
