What educators are saying

I was having difficulty getting hairs for my students to do a physical lab, so this resource really came in handy so they could still do a lab.
This was great. I don't have microscopes so this was an easy way for students to visualize hair under a microscope. I did redo the lab handout for students to make it a little easier for my students to follow, but didn't edit the Google Slides. Will use again next year.

Description

This activity is ready for distance learning!

This is a NO PREP LESSON designed for students to complete a virtual hair comparison microscope lab. This is a 3-part virtual microscopy lab that has students compare hairs from a crime scene and four suspects.

In part 1 and 2 of the lab, students use the Virtual Microscopy Lab to gather macroscopic and microscopic information about their hair samples. In part 3, students have access to editable Google Slides so that they can measure the medulla, and cortex with a draggable ruler. By the end of the lab, students fill out their digital worksheet to answer analysis questions and come to a conclusion about the hairs they analyzed.

The activity includes:

  • Virtual Microscopy Lab Google Slides (32 slides)
  • Student Digital Worksheet
  • Teacher Answer Sheet
