Description

Forces – Friction and Movement – A Third Grade SmartBoard Review is a SmartBoard instructional presentation in line with the 3rd Grade SOL’s for the state of Virginia (Force, Motion, and Energy)
This lesson focuses on what causes objects to move. It includes: a Smartboard presentation of the text including:
• Terminology (friction)
• The concept of how changes in motion occur due to unequal forces acting on an object.
• How motion changes.
• Explanation of friction and what causes motion to slow/stop.
• How brakes work with friction.
• Ways to increase and decrease friction.

Also included are two SmartBoard activities. The first activity has various questions involving friction with movement, grouping, and ordering of objects. The second activity (which is also a PDF for handout) has simple experiment data that students will answer questions about with regard to friction.
