Fluency Fans: Nonsense Words {CCVC Blends: Set 2}

What are Nonsense Word Fluency Fans?
Nonsense Word Fluency Fans are groups of fan “blades” that students can use to practice their fluent reading of nonsense words. Each blade contains a list of 5 different nonsense words.


In this set, the initial blends (or triple clusters) and final consonants of the nonsense word change across all 5 words on the fluency fan blade and the vowel remains the same. Occasionally a real word will sneak in.

Why Nonsense Words?
When students read nonsense words they are relying solely on their letter-sound knowledge to decode the words. There is no possibility for the student to use context clues from a sentence or story to assist them in the decoding of the word. That’s a good thing!
