Flower Power: 4 Mixed-media projects

This is an instructional visual art workbook detailing how to create 4 mixed-media floral artworks.

Projects include:

1. Mixed-media and collage design: students will create texture paper with a range of drawing materials and use it to collage a colourful bouquet. Skills include, line drawing, collage, pastel blending and pencil shading.
2. Field of flowers: create a vibrant garden of blooms using acrylic paint and paint pen. Processes explored include, shape-making with brushes, textural contrasts with different mediums and painting negative spaces.
3. Printmaking relief print: students will make a floral printing plate and transfer their design with lino ink. They will learn how to create lines and shapes by cutting shapes and making indentations into the plate.
4. Monoprint and collage design: this project combines printmaking, drawing and collage. Students will explore monoprinting with acrylic paint to create a range of texture papers. They will use the papers to create an arrangement of semi-abstract flowers and create contrast and visual interest by drawing and decorating a patterned vase.

Each project includes easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions with a detailed photo of each step in the making process. Also included are inspiration worksheets for the vase shapes and the various patterns and designs featured in each project.
