Description
North Carolina has always played an important part in our nation’s history. This slideshow — “First in War, North Carolina and the American Revolution” — will teach students from 4th grade through junior high the underlying causes of the state’s rebellion against the English crown and the major events and battles during the war era. The slide show and narrator’s script can be supplemented by student journal writing in the style of “I was there” with seven creative writing prompts. The teacher may choose to have students complete all or some of the journal prompts. To help students take notes and write their journal entries, templates have been included to remind them of the assignments. The teacher may make copies of the templates as needed. In addition there are four multiple choice quizzes with an answer key that will give the teacher feedback on how much the class has learned. And three optional assignments have been included for student-created maps. A teacher’s guide is also available to show how the unit can be used. All parts of this unit can be adapted for use in distance learning. The slide show covers the following topics:
- The Regulator Movement
- Growing Protests
- The Battle of Alamance
- Dr. Houston the Stamp Collector
