Finding Allusions with Coldplay

Students will view and listen to the song "Viva La Vida" by the group Coldplay. The song contains many Biblical allusions. Students pay careful attention as they listen to the song and begin to piece together a puzzle using the allusions. The teacher will provide slides that correlate to some of the students found allusions. There are several links to videos found in the ppt. In the end, students discuss who they believe the song is about. This is a great way to practice seeing any kind of allusions in literature. It also shows why paying attention in English class can be key to later understanding of things like books, magazines, television shows and movies. Allusions are all around us!
