What educators are saying
Description
This is a 17 part unit of figure drawing and sculpture. We begin this unit by examining human anatomy and proportions. After drawing both the human skeleton and muscles, students practice drawing each other in a series of gesture drawings. Once they have practiced their figure drawing skills, students then take their knowledge into the 3-D realm.
In this project students are asked to choose their favorite fictional character to re-create as a figure sculpture. By first constructing a wire armature to act as the skeleton, students add tin foil and tape to represent the muscles. Next, students add a layer of plaster and Paperclay to represent the skin and tissue. Finally, students use paint and mixed media to add amazing details to their figure sculptures!
