Description

This lesson focuses on figurative language for a range of learners, as well providing a guided creative writing task (with the use of an extract from an original short story). The level is (US: 8th Grade to 10th Grade and revision for 11th to 12th Grade; UK Years 8, 9 and revision for 10, 11).

Students learn/revise:

1. Foreshadowing

2. Narration (first person narrative)

3. Mood

4. Features of figurative language

5. Application of figurative language.

Specific learning objectives:

1. Identify features of foreshadowing;

2. Understanding and identifying the following figurative language features: similes,

metaphors, symbolism, personification, foreshadowing.

3. Application of those features through the completion of a creative writing task (finish a story from an extract and use the visual aid).

This is a heavily adaptable lesson which can be:

Set as homework in entirety;

Given has half homework and half delivery;

Given as full delivery.

Given as a revision guide or source document to compliment other lessons around English Literature.
