What educators are saying

Students had so much, we all started singing the lyrics while practicing this standard-aligned lesson!
My students loved the different scenarios that were offered when trying to label the type of type of figurative language being used.

Description

New-2019! This is a cute, fun, and engaging Figurative Language lesson for middle school and high school students. I cover Metaphor, Simile, Personification, Hyperbole, Idiom, Allusion, Alliteration and Onomatopoeia. There are so many ways to use this product, but here's what's included.

58 Slide PPT Presentation (with Google Slide version)

  • Visually pleasing slides with definitions and examples of each figure of speech
  • 42 practice slides to review and practice identifying figurative language
  • Figurative language in music, YA novels, and classic literature included.

Guided Notes and Practice Slide Recording Sheets

  • 4 versions of Guided Notes to go along with the power point (including a key, totally blank version, and two different partially filled in versions)
  • 2 versions of Practice Slide Recording Sheets (all 42 examples in one PDF, or 3 sets of 14 examples to break up the material)

Bonus!

  • Worksheets! You can use the recording sheets as stand-alone worksheets (no powerpoint necessary)
  • POSTERS! I have included a PDF version of the presentation so that you can print the slides as posters, anchor charts, or task cards! I know how creative you guys can get so it's really up to you!
  • I've included an editable and compressed version of the PPT slides so that you can choose which one is best for you. I know I always dislike having to download random fonts to get my TPT purchases to look right. That's why I've included a compressed version to take out the headache.
  • Google Slide Version! This version is great if you want to share the slides with your students and have them complete the notes or practice slides on their own.

Notes: Slide 47 has the word "bada**" in a quote from City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. In the quote this term is referring to Wolverine and Magneto (from X-men, allusion!). I deemed this appropriate for my students in an urban middle school, but you know your students best. Please delete the slide if this won't work for your kiddos.

My gorgeous background images were purchased from Digital Curio on TPT. And as always, credit to the Queen (KG Fonts) for her amazing work.
