What educators are saying

My students loved using this resource! It was a great way to review. They were highly engaged and excited to review!

Description

This is a hands-on game your students can play to practice the various literary elements.

simile

metaphor

onomatopoeia

personification

alliteration

hyperbole

This is a fun, educational game! I created it because I know that many standardized tests require students to identify literary devices, and I wanted my students to be prepared for this type of analysis.

It includes 36 game pieces (18 matches) and directions!

It comes in two formats: print and digital. Choose the format that is best for your students!

  1. Teachers who choose the traditional print format will print a set of cards for each small group. Students will cut apart the cards, turn them facedown, and then take turns trying to uncover matches. When all of the cards have been matched, students count their cards to determine the winner.
  2. The newer digital format is an Easel Activity. It is set up to be a game that students can play individually or with a partner. Students are presented with a sentence that contains figurative language, and they must find the matching card that labels the literary device.

CHECK OUT THE PREVIEW to view both versions!

If you would like to explore how the digital version of this activity is played, I invite you to check out one of these free contraction concentration games: Basic Contractions Memory and Advanced Contractions Memory. (Just click on the links.)
