What educators are saying

We used this at a family engagement night at all the students and parents loved the activities! Great resource.
This resource was super easy to use! We had a Camping Literacy Night at my school and we could literally print everything and there was little to no prep work! Thank you for making our lives easy!

Description

This is a resource perfect for those schools that celebrate Read Across America Day or March is Reading Month. The theme is camping related, so it really can be used any time throughout the year. Your school will transformed into a campground, an exciting place where reading and writing magic happens! Everything you need to carry out an inspiring, interactive, and academic event is included! You'll receive resources for your families attending the event and staff that are helping to run the station activities. Posters and printables for the stations are included, along with decorations you can use!

Included are:

~Suggestions and Ideas to Implement Event: A possible time frame is included, along with tips and tricks to make your event run smoothly.

~Shopping List: All the materials you'll need for each station are listed on one sheet, to help you organize the event.

~Parent Flyer: An event flyer to send home is provided. An editable flyer is also included for you to type in your own information. The editable flyer is a PowerPoint file.

~Camp Read-A-Lot Station Punch Cards: A variety of punch cards are included for you to pick from. Parents will use to complete stations.

~Reading Pledge Forms: Have your families make a Family Reading Pledge; use as an Exit Ticket for them to start their station activities.

~Station Activities: There are seven activities included, in summary~

Campfire Compounds: Students will put together s'more parts to make compound words. A recording sheet is included along with a take-home booklet of their new words.

I'm a Camper Poem: Students will write an autobiographical poem following the format given. They just have to fill in the simple blanks, i.e., I am.... They will then make a cutout of themselves to put in their sleeping bag folder-holder.

Marshmallow Words: Use an edible marker to write on marshmallows and students will use them to make as many words as they can. A recording sheet is included.

Star Light, Star Bright: Students will choose a cozy spot like inside a tent or sleeping bag and read stars with sight words on them, using a flashlight. What fun! They'll take home a bookmark with words they had trouble reading, so they can practice them.

Say It Like A... Students will practice fluency by reading tongue twisters in different camp related voices, i.e., worried mother, excited camper.

The Best Time Ever! This is a Mad Lib type story students will practice different types of grammar.

Gone Fishin' Snack: Students will make a fishing pole using a pretzel rod, licorice rope, and gummy worm. Simple and oh, so, cute!

Finally, I've included a banner and other book character decorations you can use to make a bulletin board for your event.

This is a fun resource that you'll be able to use for years, as the theme will never go out of date. Please see the preview for a look at what you'll receive.

Please note that this price is for one classroom teacher ONLY! If you'd like to use for your entire school, please ask your administrator to purchase additional licenses for each teacher that will be using this resource. Thanks so much for abiding by these terms of use.

I have another Family Literacy Night, that is Dr. Seuss related you can view here.
