Description

Fall math activities for 3rd grade students just got a lot more fun! Perfect for a fall math activity (or anytime, really!), these math task cards are actually an entertaining game of school days mystery! Printables made fun!

These fall math activities will get your 3rd grade students engaged and learning in those first challenging weeks of school - with very little prep from you! We all love doing back to school activities that help jump-start our math understanding while playing a fun game at the same time. A perfect bridge from a summer at home to back to school!

Select from color or black and white task cards for this back to school activity. Students can play with partners, small groups, or the entire class.

These puzzles help your students practice their equivalent fraction and comparing fraction skills and gain new confidence in their growing math skills. These are 3rd-grade math task cards in a fun and flexible game format!

This equivalent fractions center is a great way to enrich 2nd grade, teach 3rd grade, and provide intervention for 4th grade!

Want fractions activities for more grades?

Here's how it works: The first two puzzles in this collection each contain 12 equivalent fraction problems to solve; the second two puzzles let students practice comparing fractions. The correct answer for each math problem will allow the student to eliminate one or more "suspects" from the school-themed mysteries. Only when every math problem is answered correctly will the student be able to solve the mystery. It grades itself!

What you get: There is a total of 48 math problems. You get both color and black and white task cards for easy printing - 4 task cards per sheet, 12 task cards per puzzle. And because these math task cards adhere to Common Core standards, we print them on the footer of all pages so you can find them in a hurry. You also get recording sheets and answer keys.

Here's how you can use these new math task cards:

  • You can laminate them for use over and over.
  • Print the black and white version on colored paper for ink-savings.
  • Whip out these school-themed task cards as a fun bell-ringer, a non-food reward, or as a math center.
  • Project the cards for whole group learning - the mystery theme makes it a fun group activity as well.

Each of the 4 puzzles takes about 20 minutes to complete, so you have a lot of flexibility built in to the set.

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions, (e.g., 1/2 = 2/4, 4/6 = 2/3). Explain why the fractions are equivalent, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
