What educators are saying

These are useful books for the month of October. I am not using the words as that is above their level.
This was a great addition to my adaptive book library. My students enjoyed working with it, and for the ones who are reading they enjoyed putting the words first to show off to me :) I plan on ordering all the other seasons as we approach them.

Description

Are you trying to engage your students in meaningful reading activities? These fun adapted books for special education students are the perfect way to get your students engaged in reading. This set of 5 interactive vocabulary books focuses on seasonal and common vocabulary. It includes 1 book with verbs and 4 books with nouns.

These interactive vocabulary books are appropriate for special education students addressing functional skills. The adapted books include visuals for students to have and insert into the books as they are read. I also included choice board visuals to fit into the morning meeting starter kit book or story boards if you are using them.

Included with the adapted books for special education and students with autism:

  • 5 Interactive Books
  • What Happens in Fall?--Fall nouns in photos
  • It’s Time for Fall Fun--Illustrated book focusing on fall nouns and verbs
  • Let’s Go Apple Picking—Illustrated book on parts of an apple
  • Going to a Football Game—Illustrated book on nouns related to football
  • From Orchard to Table—Illustrated book with verbs related to picking apples to baking a pie

❤️You will LOVE using these adapted books for autism and special education because they allow your students to practice a variety of receptive and expressive vocabulary in a naturalistic instructional format of reading a book.

You can use interactive vocabulary books during morning meetings, story time, or as readers during reading instruction. They can even be used for students to read on their own by moving the visuals on their own to match the pages.

Many special education students love to read these interactive books because they are at their reading level but are not designed to be for younger readers. The adapted books are written at approximately a 2nd grade level so they are accessible for younger ages through secondary special education students who are working on lower reading levels.

Implementing these interactive books in your classroom is EASY! Students will participate in reading the book and then matching the pictures on the page to the correct place in the sentences, or finding the word that completes the sentence, or both!

Take a detailed look at what is included with these adapted books for special education and autism students:

⭐️What Happens in Fall?: This is a photo book with matching photos and words.  It focuses on fall nouns including sunflowers, coat, acorn, pumpkin, turkey, candy corn, orchard, and leaves.  It includes Halloween-candy corn and Thanksgiving-turkey.

⭐️It’s Time for Fall Fun: This is a clip art book with matching illustrations and words.  It focuses on fall vocabulary including colder, coat, hayride, pumpkin patch, orchard, pick [apple], carve [pumpkin], rake [leaves], and leaves.

⭐️Let’s Go Apple Picking: This book has 2 versions of matching vocabulary—one with color cards for the apple colors and one with matching colored apples.  You can choose which makes the most sense for your learners based on whether they can match non-identical picture to picture. Just print the pages twice.

⭐️Going to a Football Game: This is a clip art book with matching illustrations and words.  It focuses on vocabulary associated with a football game: Cheerleaders, referee, touchdown, field goal, team, coaches, field, and helmet.

⭐️From Orchard to Table: This book focuses on verbs for driving to the apple orchard, picking apples, peeling apples, slicing apples, baking and eating an apple pie.  At the end there is a question whether students like apple pie and cards for indicating yes or no.
