Description

The following two-page document contains pre-reading activities and strategies to prepare students for a reading of Ray Bradbury's dystopian novel "Fahrenheit 451." The first page contains five questions. The first two introduce the concepts of a utopia and dystopia and ask students questions about what they believe would be in each. The next two questions contain hyperlinks to recent news stories about "Fahrenheit 451" and asks students to respond to these stories, and the last question is about the issue of book banning. All of these questions relate to the themes and topics addressed in the novel. The second page is an anticipation guide and asks students to agree or disagree to the following statements. These statements relate to character, plot, and thematic events in the story. Both worksheets activate readers' prior knowledge and make the novel much more engaging to start than without them. Enjoy!
