Description

I'm always amazed at the number of mainstream students who think they know how to format but still center things manually and have no idea how to adjust margins or right align! This activity teaches basic formatting in Word and can be used by mainstream students, beginner ELLs, Special Ed, and low readers. It can also be used as a simple pre-assessment.

This activity includes written directions, a step-by-step video, a Student Example, and How to Use for the teacher. Beginner ELLs should use the step-by-step video but I always make the videos available to all students; many of my Special Ed students also like to use the them. Use the written step-by-step directions for higher ELLs or mainstream students. Students can compare their final product with the Student Example.

In this activity, students learn to:

  • Bold, Italicize, and Underline
  • Change font, font size, and font color
  • Center and Align Right
  • Highlight
  • Change Portrait Orientation to Landscape
  • Adjust margins to Narrow
  • Inset WordArt, change WordArt text size

This activity can be used in class or for distance learners. Post the materials on your LMS and you're set!

Most students will complete this activity in 15-20 minutes.
