Description

Make a Monster/Tell a Tale is a Google Slides activity to engage students in digital design and writing skills.  Students create a monster by selecting parts from a variety of slides: heads, eyes, mouths, hair, arms, legs, hats, and horns.  Once the monster is created, students write about the monster. A Monster Parade slideshow template is included with instructions for students to download their monster creation.

This activity can be used in the classroom, for distance learning, or in hybrid situations. Student learning goals are included at the beginning of the slide deck.

Technology Skills - Students will need to use the following digital  skills to complete this activity:

Utilize editing mode in Google Slides

Copy/paste images

Resize images

Drag images

Fill in text boxes

Download a slide (optional)

Writing Skills - Two writing prompts accompany the monster design.  However, slides are editable and teachers may adapt the directions and prompts to target particular narrative skills such as: introductions, descriptive detail, dialogue, etc.

Monster Parade - The monster parade is a great way to publish and share student work.  A separate Monster Parade Google Slide deck is provided.  It has a Table of Contents with links to numbered slides.  You can give each student a number and ask them to add their own slide image OR change the numbers in the Table of Contents to names of students in your classroom.
