    FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON ESCAPE ROOM: DIGITAL OR HANDS ON EXPLORATION OF METAPHORS AND SIMILES IN DANIEL KEYES' SHORT STORY "FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON." Students will work through four locks in this to escape the metaphor maze in a 25 minute time period. This escape room will not only review some key concepts in the short story, but also ask students to identify and analyze the author's use of simile and metaphor within the text.

    This escape room is common core aligned, student friendly, and requires minimal teacher preparation. Just give the students the URL and let the fun begin or print out the four parts (one page each) for each group. Complete with teacher tips, a student lock handout, and "I escaped" certificate.

    Part 1: Identify the comparisons made in 4 metaphors/similes from "Flowers..."

    Part 2: Unscramble the word connected to the metaphors/similes.
