Great lesson for any teacher looking for a way to introduce and/or discuss race in the classroom. The lesson plan attached provides teachers an opportunity to leverage students’ lived experiences and prior knowledge surrounding race, prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination. Lesson plan includes instructional activities like: Academic Vocabulary & Language, Accountable Talk, Cooperative learning, Activating prior knowledge, Hands on Learning, Modeling, and Journaling. Teaching strategies include: Chalk Talk, Think Aloud, Read Around, and Reflective Writing. Lesson is aligned with Common Core Standards, includes suggestions for differentiating, follows the Gradual Release model, and is designed for Middle School and above. Included in LP is an anchor chart example & poster example. Student self-assessment,Triple Entry Journal worksheet, and student checklist are sold separately (formatting issue).

*Lesson is designed for 6th grade, but can be easily modified for 5th &/or higher grades by switching standards to match grade level.
