Exploring Canadian Provinces and Territories Workbook

Have your students ever wondered where each province and territory got its name?

This workbook touches on First Nation, English, and French names that have been used throughout Canada. For each province and territory, the workbook provides a summary of the origin of the name. After each summary, there are five research questions to allow students to go deeper into their understanding of the area. For example, for the province of Alberta, students may be asked to research and write the official land acknowledgment for a specific area within Alberta as well, look up the flags for the province.

This assignment can be used to supplement lessons on Canadian geography or Canadian Confederation, or as a review at the end of a unit or at the beginning of a term. It is also an excellent workbook to use when a substitute teacher is present, as it requires little to no preparation and is completely student-led.
