Description

Are you sailing for God, Gold, or Glory?

In this Age of Exploration activity, students imagine themselves as old-world explorers writing a letter to convince a monarch to fund their expedition. In this letter they must select one motivation for their trip and describe why they are hoping to sail for this reason.

Optional: Assign small groups and randomly select one monarch per group. Have the students take turns reading their letters out loud and allow each monarch to "fund" one expedition - the one that was the most convincing.

We did this as a whole group and my students loved being able to read their letters aloud!
