Description
Students examine the changes of the human body that are associated with sports, exercise and nutrition. The course is designed to provide students with a scientific basis for understanding “fitness” — especially why it varies between individuals, and how one can improve their own fitness. Students will have opportunities to explore concepts through hands-on activities and labs.
Unit 1 Body Systems covers the heart, lungs, respiratory system, musculoskeletal system and nervous system. Included is a 90 slides presentation for teaching concepts, 4 labs, note sheets, 6 diagrams of the systems and a Price is Right activity.
Unit 2 Mental Toughness - A unit to exercise the athlete's brain. Included is a 41 slides presentation for teaching concepts, 2 worksheets and a project.
Unit 3 Principles of Exercise - This unit covers the principles of exercise and applies the concept to programming workouts. A 40 slides presentation, notes, 4 workout sheets and 1 project are provided.
Unit 4 - Optimum Nutrition, Supplementals & Ergogenic Aids This unit covers macronutrients, micronutrients, meal plans, individual needs, supplements and ergogenic aids. A 97 slide presentation, note sheets and workout sheets are provided. Additional materials include 2 video capture sheets.
