What educators are saying

I absolutely loved this activity. However, it isn't as interactive as it should be when using Google Slides. But it still shows the concepts properly. I took the gamble because there was a warning. I was happy that I did. Just sad that it wouldn't work to its potential.

Description

First off, this is NOT a typical PowerPoint that simply lists main idea bullets. This is an interactive tutorial using engaging pictures, animations, and questions that require student input in order to proceed.

This tutorial will guide students through the process of evolution by natural selection. The tutorial begins by taking readers through an introduction of Charles Darwin and his voyage on-board the HMS Beagle. Next, the tutorial will guide students thought the principles of natural selection and concludes using antibiotic resistance as a real world example. This tutorial consists of 158 slides full of engaging images and animations to assist with student learning. The tutorial culminates with a 10 question post-quiz to check for understanding.

Once you purchase, feel free to make multiple copies to use with your students. In years past, I burned a class set of CDs with all my interactive tutorials to handout to my students whenever we would go to the computer lab. However, recently I obtained a class set of USB flash drives that I hand out to my students whenever we go to the computer lab.

There are 3 files included in this purchase:

1) The actual PowerPoint tutorial

2) Student worksheet (Word format)

3) Student worksheet (PDF format)

Common questions I have been asked:

1) Can Chromebooks and Google Slides run this tutorial? The answer is "probably not." I created the tutorial using Microsoft PowerPoint, which is simply more powerful than Google Slides. Much of the interactivity that I created in the tutorial will be lost. Most of the animations that I created will not work. I wish there was a better answer.

2) How do you use this tutorial in your classroom?

- option A: Place the tutorial on your school's LMS for your students to access. My school district uses Google Classroom. So I simply upload this tutorial into Google Classroom and my students can access the file from there.

- option B: Gather a collection of old USB/thumb drives. You can then save the tutorial onto the USB drives and hand them to students as needed.

3) How did you obtain a class set of USB/thumb/flash drives?

Some of the USB drives I purchased years ago for my own needs. However, many were donated by colleagues as many people have extra USB drives cluttering up their drawers at home. A few were donated by students who had extras at home. Just ask around and I bet you can accumulate a small collection.
