Description

Become a biologist for a day! What is a species? Who was Charles Darwin? Observe how a species changes over time and witness the processes of evolution and natural selection. Become an expert in the difference between gradualism and punctuated equilibrium. Observe genetic mutations in species that may help, hurt, or have no effect on their survivability. Examine the structural, functional, or behavioral adaptations organisms will undergo in order to survive in their environment. Understand the processes of natural selection and extinction. Become knowledgeable in fossil records and investigate the differences between imprint, cast, and trace fossils. Learn about the scientific processes used to determine the age of fossils by exploring relative dating and radiometric dating. Discover how embryology, vestigial, structures, and homologous structures provide evidence of the evolutionary process.

Your purchase consists of 1 downloadable PDF file consisting of a 107 page lesson including Q&A material, 5 posters, and 21 close-up fossil pictures. The lesson is designed for viewing on a laptop/tablet or to be printed out.

The lesson is designed for the parent, tutor, or teacher to guide the child through the material. There are many options on how to do this. You can take turns reading each slide and pointing out the pictures and diagrams. The child can read it aloud followed by questions by the adult. The adult can read the slides and ask the child to point out key parts of the slides that correspond to the key words and phrases. There are endless ways for you to link the visualizations to the concepts being taught.

The lesson works best when paired with the flashcards which are designed to test your child's grasp of the lesson. Again, the ways to accomplish this are limited only by your imagination. For children with autism who have trouble with expressive language, the flashcards are a built-in test without the need for language. For a child with autism or any child who has limited expressive language, the cards are a necessity.

VisualCurriculums lessons and flashcards are designed specifically for children with autism or other learning disorders as well as children who learn better visually, however neurotypical children love using the lessons and flashcards as fun study guides!
