Everything You Need To Know About Phonics and Spelling Rules!

This comprehensive phonics and spelling booklet is a compilation of information on the six syllable types, common phonetic patterns, generalized spelling rules and morphemes in the English Language. It was created with multi-sensory programs like Orton-Gillingham, Project Read and Prevent Academic Failure (PAF) in mind, however, its use can easily be extended and adapted to any reading or word study programs that have a phonics and spelling component. Teachers are provided with phonograms, their place value, frequency in use and additional features to note. Also included are clearly defined explanations for the most common spelling rules in the English Language. A morphological component provides lists prefixes, suffixes and root words by their frequency of use as well as their meanings.

The most effective way to use the product is to incorporate the rules and related language when introducing a mini-lesson on a new phonogram, morpheme or spelling rule. The guide also allows you to promote consistency in the language you use when reinforcing and reviewing these important concepts.

This booklet was a labor of love and a culmination of six years studying language in order to become certified as a Reading Specialist and Orton-Gillingham Teacher. I found in my own work, as both a classroom and reading teacher, that this pertinent and explicit information was not always provided in one central place or made clear in the typical teacher manuals that accompanied spelling/phonics/word study programs. In using this tool and methodology, I have observed a significant increase in my students proficiency in spelling, writing and reading. I hope you find this information as useful as I have!
