Description

Everything we do in the Spanish classroom should be infused with culture, but that can be hard to do when we teach grammar. This Power Point allows you to teach the verb ESTAR in the context of the country of Ecuador. With 70 colorful photos, your students' interest will be held by the contrasts of the land - the city, the countryside, the people, the food, and the natural beauty.

And they will learn how and when to use the verb ESTAR while they are enjoying the virtual trip to Ecuador. Animated slides show the conjugations, the formation of the present participle, and show the proper contexts to use the verb - feelings, locations, conditions, and the present progressive.

Two printable pages are included for students to fill out while they watch, or afterwards for practice. They can be taken up for a grade or kept in their notebook to study.

In addition to the animated grammar explanations, the following photo themes are included: Quito, the rural countryside, the Equator, Cotopaxi volcano, Galápagos, and the giant Galápagos tortoises. I also use pictures from Ecuador to show off the different grammar examples, so students are surrounded by the culture as they learn.

Why Ecuador? Because it is a culture that is so often overlooked in our textbooks, in our discussions and celebrations of culture, and because it can be hard to find quality material about Ecuador. You will be able to give your students something unexpected and very out of the ordinary with this slide show and you don't have to feel guilty about teaching grammar!
