Description
These Google Form tests for high school students (grades 9-12) contain passage-based prompts--including multiple choice, checkbox, matching, and short response styles--designed to mirror the types of questions that are commonly seen on state assessments. The skills checks are standards-aligned, excellent for use as summative assessments over the specific works from which the passages are selected. They work just as well well as cold readings for a more realistic testing scenario. The tests are almost entirely self-scoring, which makes grading a breeze!
Some of the topics covered include...
- repetition
- comparison
- tone
- diction (word choice), connotation, and vocabulary

When implementing these skills checks, you may want to edit the instructions and settings to best suit your needs. When my students take these tests, I treat them as a practice, so I allow students to go back and edit their work as many times as desired to get extra practice in their weak areas and, ultimately, to increase their scores. I count them as only a minor grade.
I regularly develop these skills checks and add them here. If you're interested in viewing more as I create them, get notifications of future resource drops by following me!
