Description

This video guide is for The History Channel's popular Engineering an Empire the Mayas documentary video (individual episodes are available on YouTube, or DVDs can be purchased from the History Channel or Amazon.com). The guide is divided into five sections and examines the mysterious and amazing Maya Empire's growth into one of the greatest and most advanced of the world's early civilizations. There are a total of 21 narrative questions with fill in the blank answers that span the 45 minute video.

The narrative question format is designed to engage the students throughout the video, and focuses on historical, social and cultural aspects of the Mayas. It allows for followup discussion. Included is a teachers key with answers and time codes for starting and stopping the video at each of the major sections. This is an excellent activity as an overview of early American empires, or it may be use effectively throughout your course at the appropriate times as a supplement to other instructional materials.
