Description

Are you looking for an Escape Room experience for your elementary students to end their school year? This will be perfect! This breakout includes a scavenger hunt, a maze, and a secret code. As tasks are completed students find a code to open a locked box. Yes, a STEM Challenge is included!

What are the Tasks?

For the first task:

  • Teams begin with a Summer Words Scavenger Hunt paper leading to the lock code. (The Scavenger Hunt is editable in PowerPoint and Google Slides.)

For the second task:

  • Teams have a maze on which to trace paths to find hidden numbers that turn out to be the lock code.

For the third task:

  • Teams use a secret code to decipher a secret message to find the lock code.

What is your prep?

Things you will need to prepare:

  • Prepare your version of the scavenger hunt locations using the editable file, hang the scavenger hunt display
  • Make copies of the scavenger hunt paper, the lock code clues, the maze, and the secret message paper.
  • There are also miscellaneous pages you can choose to copy.
  • This resource includes detailed directions (with photos) for all the preparation. It took 30 minutes for me to set up the Escape Room. Your prep also includes setting up the STEM Challenge if you choose to use it.

What do you need?

  • You will need three number locks for this escape room.
  • Directions are included to use this set without these locks!
  • You will also need three boxes. This can be a plastic or metal toolbox, but any box will work- even a cardboard box!
  • Directions and photos are included for setting up the boxes and locks or using a version without locks.
  • You do not need 3 boxes and 3 locks per group! It’s three boxes and three locks for the entire class.

Included in this resource, you will find:

  • Table of contents
  • 3 pages of tips and tricks for setting up everything
  • Box 1- 2 pages of teacher directions, two versions of the scavenger hunt paper (editable), clues for the scavenger hunt lock code, and the box labels
  • Box 2- 2 pages of teacher directions, the maze and answer key, clues for the lock code, and box labels
  • Box 3 – 2 pages of teacher directions, secret code, and message, answer key for the message, and box labels
  • Miscellaneous forms include hint cards for each task
  • Alternative locking system (made of paper)
  • Color-by-number summer page for early finishers
  • Certificates to award students completing the task
  • All pages are provided in a black and white version.

THE STEM CHALLENGE

Included in this Escape is a STEM Challenge!

You can use the challenge as a stand-alone project or use it with the Escape. This Quick Challenge is to build a bubble wand and use a bubble solution. It’s a simple challenge that can be completed outdoors making it perfect for the end of the year!

Included in the STEM Challenge file you will find:

  • Overview and hints page
  • 3 pages of teacher directions
  • criteria cards for student use
  • lab sheet with an answer sample
  • The lab sheet and criteria cards are editable.
  • Materials needed for the STEM Challenge include pipe cleaners and bubble solution. The solution recipe is included.

➡️Check the preview to see everything!

One more thing to note: This was tested with fourth and fifth graders. If your students are familiar with this format, the escape room event can be completed in 30 minutes and the STEM Challenge in about 30 more minutes. If this is your first escape room it may take a little longer.
