End the year with a BANG! Try to CRACK THE CODE!
Does the end of the year have you stressed and your students crazy excited? If the answer is yes, then try Crack the Code!
This digital breakout activity will have students collaborating, using critical thinking skills, and thinking outside the box. It begins with a story to set the scene: someone has stolen the principal and assistant principal's summer cruise tickets! They've decided to call off summer break unless someone can locate the tickets!
That's where your students come in. They will race against the clock to solve a series of clues and input the correct codes into the Google Form. If they can complete each code in time, they can save summer break!
All you need is internet access, the ability to access out-of-domain sharing of Google Drive resources, and several student devices. (cellphones, tablets, Chromebooks, laptops, etc.) This can be done individually, in pairs, or small groups. I recommend no more than 4-5 to a group.
With this activity, students can take control of their own learning. It also teaches them to persevere when they are presented with a challenge and reviews previously learned skills in a fun way. It's a win-win for everyone!
