Description
Feeling uninspired and in need of a creative jumpstart in your class? This Genius Hour Project jumpstarted my students' minds and hearts. It reignited their passion for learning, increased their motivation, and reinvigorated their spirit. This project will leave you and your students feeling excited about learning by offering a new perspective and helping you gain new insight on an interesting subject!
Passion Projects or Genius Hour is the most powerful project based learning student activity that I have ever done with my students. But it felt overwhelming and intimidating to me for many years. This is the product I wish I had when starting it! Every step of Genius Hour is planned for you so you can sit back and guide your students as they thrive and dive into their topics to become the best problem solvers and solution finders of the next generation! Take it from your fellow colleagues...
✏️"Phenomenal way to engage students and encourage ownership of their learning!" - Jess
What is Genius Hour?
Also called 20% Time or Moonshot Thinking, Genius Hour is based on a workflow model that Google implemented in which employees would dedicate 20% of their time at work to a project they were passionate and excited about. Google found that 20% time made its workers more productive, happier, and increased creativity. This is applicable in the high school classroom when teachers offer students genuine real world opportunities to develop skills and master the 4 C's - Critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication.
In this project, students use templates to help narrow down and choose a research topic about a problem they want to solve. Then they will learn about the difference between open ended and closed ended questions and do skill building practice to turn closed questions into open questions before they create an official research question. Using a research template, they will gather and sort through information. Then they will watch a video on how to send a properly formatted email so they can communicate with an expert on their topic to service as their point person who can share personal stories and experiences. Finally, students will create a final interactive project to display what they learned about their topic.
