Students use the included elapsed time worksheet to determine and compare the duration of events. Students will also learn to select an appropriate unit to measure a particular period by using a stopwatch to measure and compare the duration of events. Students furthermore use their knowledge of start and finish times to calculate the elapsed time of events, e.g. The time taken to travel from home to school.

Students will learn how to:

· determine and compare the duration of events.

· write the start and end time and determine the elapsed time.

· convert between 12-hour and 24-hour time.

· create an individual mini flip booklets by matching the elapsed time with the start and end time.

· read a stopwatch

· measure and estimate how long it takes to do activities down to the nearest hundredths of a second.

Answers to all the research questions are also available in this PowerPoint™ slides, so teachers may use it to verify students’ findings. Students then use their gained knowledge to complete a worksheet where they are required to draw out the different time zones on an Australian map (whole class) and around the world (extension students).

Students will learn how to:

· understand what causes the different time zones in Australia and around the world.

· explain why different parts of the earth have different times zones.

· conduct research and compare the local time in various time zones in Australia, including daylight sayings.
