50 question fill-in-the blank and short answer notes guide and KEY to use as you study Edgar Allan Poe. I made this to go along with a critical viewing of the free Poe Biography "The Mystery of Edgar Allan Poe" by A & E Television Networks.

(Or Amazon has the DVD). The notes guide is a great way to keep students actively listening. You could use this with the biography or as your own way to introduce all of the fascinating facts about Poe's life and writing.
The DVD is the best Poe one I have found and it is 50 minutes.
Sample questions:
*Poe saw women as _____ figures (angelic).
*In 1834, Poe was summoned to the death bed of ______ (John Allan), who threatened Poe and left him out of his will. He did, however leave money for _________ (illegitimate children).
*In "The Raven" Poe was __________ (projecting ahead) the loss of Virginia, whom he refers to as ______ (Lenore) in "The Raven."
*There are also 7 short answer questions with extra space for response on the guide. Students can answers these with a couple sentences.
If you teach Edgar Allan Poe, then I'm guessing you teach American Literature, which means you must teach The Great Gatsby!
