Earth Day Activities: Amazing Earth! Literacy, Science & Social Studies

•Earth is amazing! This resource is designed for little learners to gain basic facts and knowledge of planet
Earth and how we can care for it by recycling, reusing, and conserving.
Students will love learning facts from the informational text, and applying it to their writing and retelling skills.
This unit is not just for Earth Day! It is appropriate for any time of year.
Common Core balanced literacy activities for reading, writing, speaking and listening, science and social studies!

•Write Around The Room Simple, independent, and engaging literacy center activity! This center includes 12 word cards with color pictures, and two different recording sheets, with pictures as well to support student success in locating words.
Simply copy the word cards, cut apart, laminate if you wish, and post all around the classroom.
Students use one recording sheet at a time to help them find words and write them next to the matching picture.
Since there are six places to record on each page, there is an element of a memory game, when students realize that they may find a picture around the room, but it may not be on that recording sheet. After they complete the first page and have an opportunity to do the next, they will feel quite clever when they remember where they saw picture(s) that they now need to locate! This center is great for learners needing more support but wanting to be independent! The added perk to this activity is the oral language (conversations) that naturally take place when students are engaged in this activity!
•Writing Center 3 beginning writer response pages that focus on the Earth and Conservation, and basic writing conventions, plus Earth Words Vocabulary Writing Work Cards with Earth Words vocabulary and pictures for writing center, chalkboard center, and magnet center. A “Happy Earth Day” card to copy, fold and decorate.
