What educators are saying

This is the perfect product to use with students getting ready to take the TELPAS test. I used it with multiple groups with success.

Description

***Newly updated with a bonus Google Slides version!***

Do you want to help your ESL students with the Speaking portion of an English Proficiency test?

In Texas, the TELPAS test is our ESL progress measure. The Listening and Speaking portion of the test is on the computer for grades 2-12. To help our students get more comfortable and familiar with the Speaking portion of this important state assessment, I created these fun Progress Check and Practice Sets!

The online tutorial from TEA's testing provider does not record students' answers - but this Speaking Practice includes built-in directions for recording their speaking response directly on the PowerPoint slides! Just assign this PowerPoint as editable through Google Classroom & you’ll be able to assess where students are in their current English speaking skills. You can also see if there's a trend or pattern to the types of questions your EBs struggle with - this way you can catch misconceptions or misunderstandings early, before the actual TELPAS assessment! If you're like me & my fellow ESL teachers, you want to be able to intervene before it's time to test!

This product also leverages Vygotsky's social learning with a partner interview activity. The interviewer gets to choose 6 of 11 interview questions (from the highest 3 levels of Blooms) to ask their partner with each question based on one of the Speaking practice prompts. An "Evaluation of the Listener" is provided for the partner being interviewed!

Some students find the recording of their speaking uncomfortable and awkward – this product will help. For your EBs who are less nervous – this product will help them score even better than they would without this specific, directed practice.

Even though these speaking practice items are designed for TELPAS, the activities, tips, and guided practice can be applied to any ESL Speaking proficiency test!

Give your students a real advantage on their English Speaking assessments this year!
