ENGLISH WORK PACKAGE - Social Awareness Campaign Posters - Digital & Printable!

Understanding how to analyse and create visual texts is a key part of the Australian English curriculum. Students will come across a range of still images including advertisements, awareness campaign posters, movie posters, journalistic photographs, magazine covers and much more. To be successful in analysing and creating visual texts, students need to be familiar with the metalanguage used to discuss elements of a still image including the content (symbolic codes), technical construction (technical codes) as well as any text used (written codes).

This work package is a great way to teach students how to analyse still images with a focus on a particular type of image – Social Awareness Campaign Posters.

The package will get students thinking about social issues that affect individuals and groups within their community as well as the ways in which producers of campaign posters can target specific audiences, encouraging them to become emotionally invested in their cause and even to take social action. It is suitable and adaptable for grades 9-12.

How I use it:

This resource package covers a whole unit on visual analysis and creation and can be used over a number of lessons (2-5 weeks depending on grade level).
