Thank a veteran. Make the heart, glue it on a piece of construction paper, and write a thank you note on the back. You have an easy Veterans Day craft or thank you card!

There are two puzzles included with this download. The easier heart shape will have students match 14 pieces together by correctly answering 19 problems. The harder puzzle will have students put 36 different problems together by correctly putting the 24 piece heart together.

You need to create the puzzle, so it will fit the needs of YOUR students! Teachers in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade have used this puzzle with success.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

You get two puzzles in this download. The easier puzzle is 14 pieces with room for 19 problems, while the harder puzzle has 24 pieces with room for 36 problems to fit the skill/s your students need to focus on. You can keep changing the problems to use this puzzle over and over again.

You also get a NO PREP puzzle option. I use the Find/Replace function and change them from 1 A, 1 Q, 2 A, 2 Q, 3 A, 3 Q, etc. 

There is a puzzle template with the actual puzzle pieces so students can put their pieces over the top OR a blank outline as a guide, but not direct help. Use these for students who need a bit more support with the puzzle shape.

Use these puzzles anytime you need a fun activity - particularly for Valentine's Day.

Students with special needs also do well with these once they understand the concept. With this fun game format your students will stay engaged while practicing necessary multiplication skills!

These puzzles are meant to be somewhat of a challenge - which is perfect to promote a growth mindset. Students will have to keep in mind the shape of the heart and persevere if the task seems challenging. Tell students to rotate the pieces around and analyze what they can do differently until they fit. This is where their critical thinking and 21st Century skills will come into play!

Just print and quickly cut on the lines and you have instant Valentine's Day centers that make skill practice fun and engaging. If you have some extra time, let your first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, or eighth graders decorate the finished heart. These colored masterpieces can then be used as artwork for the classroom, to help decorate a bulletin board, or be hung in the hallway to add some festive art flair. (And no administrator complaints since it's an academic activity!)
