Description
If you want a high score in an ECERS-3 observation, you have to understand the importance of the language, literacy, and interaction requirements in the scale. This resource helps prepare you for having an ECERS evaluation by telling you the most important things to focus on when talking and interacting with children!
The heart of an ECERS-3 observation is about how the teacher(s) interacts with the children in the classroom. Teachers and administrators often ask me, “What do I need to say during an observation to get a high score?” While it’s true that there are many things that a rater needs to observe during an observation for the teacher to earn credit, you don't need to be told exactly what to say. Giving a teacher a checklist of what to say during an observation is:
1. Stressful
2. Not genuine
3. Creating quality for a day, rather than showing the teacher how to create quality everyday
This product is a 16 page digital download where I teach you how to embed high-quality language and interactions into your daily practice and provide many examples of how to start using these strategies immediately, leading to improved child outcomes and higher ECERS-3 scores. Based on the observations I’ve completed and what I frequently see in classrooms, I have condensed everything I understand about language, literacy, and interaction for an ECERS-3 observation with children aged 3-5 into 6 key principles.
Included with the guide is a printable poster with the 6 key principles and some important information about each principle so you can easily hang it up in a classroom as a reminder of how to keep engaging in high-quality interactions with children.
Download as a PDF and printable as an 8.5x11 (regular paper size).

How to Prepare for an Observation
About me: I was previously a rater for my state's Quality Rating and Improvement System where I conducted high-stakes Environment Rating Scales (ERS) observations for multiple years. I now work in a consulting capacity where I maintain certification in ECERS-3, ITERS-3, and Pre-K CLASS. I can't guarantee you rating results, but I really want to help you improve your practice and prepare!
