Description

Dred Scott and the Lincoln Douglas Debates takes students back to one of the worst Supreme Court decisions ever. The summary reading discusses the background of the case, the Court’s decision and its ramifications for the country. A year later, two candidates from Illinois would debate over a senate seat. The Lincoln Douglas debates focused on slavery and the Dred Scott case, cornering Stephen Douglas into his Freeport Doctrine. Text covers the aftermath of the debates for both Douglas and Lincoln.

This can be used in class or as homework as it’s a completely stand alone assignment. This is also perfect for substitute teacher plans, and of course, a key is included.
