What educators are saying

My students enjoyed this as a challenge. I do a challenge for each class every day. It was so much fun to watch their expressions change as they began to figure out what was going on. It was a great way to help the students learn about really paying attention to the details in the text.
This was great! My students were so surprised by the stories and learned a lot about how our brains make/jump to conclusions! Thank you!!

Description

Have fun playing "gotcha!" with your 3rd to 6th-grade students while also reinforcing the skill of drawing conclusions. This slide show is a fun way to introduce or review inferencing. The skill is reviewed in the introductory slides, then two stories follow that purposely lead your students to draw the wrong conclusions! Students are praised for "jumping to conclusions" though, and careful reading is reinforced. In my classroom, I've often followed this up with a writing lesson. Students understand that good authors imply what is happening rather than directly stating, and some students enjoy trying to write their own "jumping to conclusions" stories after seeing these.
