Description

Are you looking to use more Diverse Literature in your elementary classrooms this year? This resource is for you! This resource contains activities in Math, Reading, Writing, Science, and Social Studies. Includes STEM Challenges too.

Instructions in resource on how to use virtually and split PDF's. Adding the activities to a JAMBOARD, Google Slide, or Nearpod ADD ON on Google Slides will make this resource easy to use for digital assignments.

Activities such as using a number code to find the value of a word, determining the theme of the story, comparing and contrasting characters in the book, citing evidence to prove connections, and making timelines, plus finding the age of death of a person in a biography using computation skills.

Place value, fractions, measurement, geometry, and graphing ideas are shared in the resource.

Books can also be used to introduce many science concepts covered in the elementary grades. The science activities can be used to review science concepts taught in previous grades before the Science standardized test usually given in fifth grade.

Skill list included for fiction and nonfiction books on skills that can be taught and reviewed with the books. Templates included to complete the activities.

Great activities to start the year off with or to close learning gaps.

Draw a scaled picture graph and a scaled bar graph to represent a data set with several categories. Solve one- and two-step “how many more” and “how many less” problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs. For example, draw a bar graph in which each square in the bar graph might represent 5 pets.
Find the area of a rectangle with whole-number side lengths by tiling it, and show that the area is the same as would be found by multiplying the side lengths.
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
Recognize angles as geometric shapes that are formed wherever two rays share a common endpoint, and understand concepts of angle measurement:
Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place.
