Description

This is a digital Magic Reveal Pixel Art: Winter Snowy Owl! Students will solve long division word problems and as they do, a picture of a beautiful festive owl will appear. This digital activity is self-checking, because if the kids enter the correct answer, the box changes color. All problems are word problems with a remainder. Students have to put the mathematical number AND the remainder, AND then interpret the remainder to answer the actual question WITH a label.

This activity is in google sheets and works with ANY device that is connected to the internet. It is easy to assign to your students. It is self checking, so students can truly have ownership of their education. It is designed to be truly independent!

This activity is engaging, low prep, paperless, and FUN! It is easy to assign in google classroom. I tested it out on my fourth graders and they LOVED it! ALSO - it comes with a teacher tutorial video that will help you if you have any questions about how to use, or how to assign. ALSO - these are editable and you can even change the questions if you want to!

How does it work?

Students will solve the problems in Column A by typing their answers in Column B. In Column C, they type the remainder. Then, they need to actually interpret the remainder in order to answer the question properly in columns d and e. I've designed this to keep kids from cheating, because they need to interpret the remainder and think through the problem conceptually. This also makes it rigorous and these questions are the types of questions students will actually see on exams. As the students answer, a mystery pixel art image is revealed, piece by piece. When the pixels appear, that's how students know they got it correct! If nothing happens, then students know to self-correct their answer.

Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.
