What educators are saying

My students really liked this resource! It was enough of a challenge that it made it fun, but they were still able to get it without frustration.

Description

Students will have a blast learning about the elements of the fairy tale genre as they use their skills and wit to unlock six codes to escape to the other side of Fairy Tale Land! These cleverly thought-out escape room activities capture students' attention and have them fully engaged as they use the clues on each slide to solve the lock codes. Each slide gives students information about one of the elements of fairy tales including good characters, evil characters, royalty, magic, the task, and happily ever after. In essence, students are learning what makes a story a fairy tale as they figure try to escape each room's activity.

Perfect for a classroom reward or Fun Friday!

All clues are within a Google Slides document, so there are no worries about access to other websites or students being exposed to ads or other content on the internet. Students simply solve a lock code for each slide, plug the code into the Google Form provided, and when successful, students are given a link to a reward: a fairy tale jigsaw puzzle (also within a Google Slides document for internet safety).

Teacher notes are thorough for easy implementation. Just copy the link to the escape room activity to assign in Google Classroom and let them go to work! The Google Form (where students plug in their codes) is embedded on the first slide so students can just click the link to open and plug in their codes as they solve each lock. The digital version of the Code Tracker Worksheet is also included as the last slide.

Here's what you get:

  • Detailed notes for implementation
  • A link to copy the file of the breakout activity to assign in Google Classroom (all done in Google slides for internet safety)
  • Slides include these elements: Good characters, evil characters, royalty, magic, the tasks, and happily ever after in fairy tales, so there are six tasks to complete
  • A link to the Google Form for Lock Codes (embedded in students' escape activity and the actual link is provided so that it can be copied and shared in Google Classroom - your choice)

Note: The Google Form for Lock Codes is responsive to students' answers by letting students know if their response is correct or incorrect. Responses to incorrect answers provide clues to further assist students in solving for the correct code.

  • A digital and PDF version of the Code Tracking Worksheet is provided
  • A link to a jigsaw activity is provided at the end of the Google Form for Lock Codes as a reward for students who solve all six lock codes (also in Google Slides for internet safety)
  • Answer Key included

This resource has been tried and true with a seal of approval from my 3rd and 4th grade students!
