What educators are saying

Last minute I decided to watch a video in class. I quickly found this video guide and it was perfect. Thank you for an answer key!

Description

This is a video guide handout for, "Digging for the Truth: Roanoke-The Lost Colony" Season 2 Episode 5 of the History Channel Series 'Digging for the Truth.' I was able to find the video by searching YouTube for "Digging for the Truth Lost Colony". The video is approximately 44 minutes 21 seconds in length. I make not guarantees that the video is still available for free. Please check BEFORE purchasing if you do not have a copy of the video. This video is not a super crisp and clear version of the show, but I use it every year and none of my students have ever complained. Please check the video before you purchase the questions.

This video is really interesting. They actually go out to Roanoke Island and research what happened to the colonists. Students get to see exactly where they lived and went missing from. They will learn things that support several different theories of what may have happened to them. The researchers even conduct DNA of a possible descendant of the some of the colonists!

It has been my experience that if students do not have anything to do during a video, they do not pay attention. However, if you have them take notes or answer questions with written answers, they are too distracted. The purpose of a video should be to enhance learned material. I use these questions as a guide to make sure students are paying attention, but in a format that is simple enough that they are able to absorb (and enjoy!) the information in the video. All they have to do is listen for the answer and circle/highlight it. This usually keeps them on their toes!
