The research-based activities require students to think about their vocabulary words from different angles. The best part is that the task cards utilize many different learning styles, and this same task card bunch can be used with the same Tier 2 list multiple times or with different lists as the year progresses.
While teachers could use these task cards to fill precious extra classroom moments with valuable study time, they can also be used as an activity that would last an entire class period. This practice exercise is perfect for an ELA class (middle or high school), but would also be appropriate for any Tier 2 list. The tasks are challenging, so I would not recommend this file for elementary-level students. These cards come with a title sheet and a student answer sheet.
With purchase, you will also receive 3 additional unique, challenging, and fun vocabulary practice worksheets to use following the task cards. It could be a homework assignment or an in-class activity. The premise is that after using the task cards, students have an idea regarding which words they still don't know very well. They can complete one of these assignment sheets for each word, and the benefit is that they are thinking about the word and making connections with it from many angles; through fun repetition, they are learning more about their words.
Finally, you will also get a graphic organizer that you can use to help students predict new word meanings before you introduce your lists. Predicting word meanings deepens students' thought process about the words and helps them to understand the importance of utilizing context clues.
