Differentiated Fractions Pack

This 66 page pack is filled with differentiated fraction activities that can be used in grades K-4. Work mat activities (with the whole cookies) are great for preschool and Pre K too. This pack includes a cookie fraction game, differentiated work mat activities, fraction worksheets and word problems with open responses.

**GREAT for differentiation with your GATE students!!**

Fill the Plate Game - I copy and laminate one game board for every student. You can use the fraction cards or spinners. I make several copies of the cards and color code the back so I have differentiated decks. This makes it easy for all students to do the same activity, but at their individual instructional level. To play, students take turns drawing cards from the deck (or use spinners) and place the small cookie manipulatives on their plate. The first one to fill their plate wins! As an after thought, I realized this game can be further differentiated by placing a subtraction symbol on some of the cards so students will have to remove cookies from their plate as well . You can easily draw this on the cards provided.

Work Mat Activities - This is another super activity for use in your differentiated math centers. Students select a number (with or without looking) to determine the number of cookies they will place on their plate, then place an equal amount of cookies in each section. As an extension, you can have students write out the fractions they make on a separate piece of paper. Work mats can be used for open or closed end centers. I also use these work mats for small group instruction. There are six colored plate/number sets so they do not get mixed up. You can also copy the black plate/numbers on colored card stock as another management option. I laminate the work mat, numbers and small cookie manipulatives, and keep the pieces in Ziploc baggies. I keep each set in a large envelope with the matching plates. I also glue a copy of the sample plate on the envelopes and then laminate them.

Cookie Fraction Work Sheets (Including word problems and open responses) can be used one at a time with the whole group or you can copy different worksheets on colored paper to differentiate. For example if you copy the L1 and L2 Halves Worksheet on two different colors, all your students will do a worksheet that looks the same - just with different problems. Sometimes I give students the option of which one they want to do, providing me with great anecdotal information.
